ReDock compared with LocalWP
Local calls itself "The #1 local WordPress development tool", counts more than a million downloads, runs on Linux and Intel Macs as well as Apple silicon and Windows, and has a hosting company behind it: push and pull to WP Engine and Flywheel, cloud backups, Blueprints, Mailpit and Xdebug are all there. It is WordPress only, its certificates are self-signed and need a Keychain step on newer macOS, its Live Links need an account, and nothing on its pages describes an AI agent or an MCP server. ReDock runs WordPress next to n8n, Node, Bun, Astro and headless pairs, trusts every site's certificate from the first launch, shares with a quick link that needs no account, and ships a built-in agent and an MCP server. If your whole day is WordPress and your host is WP Engine or Flywheel, Local is the closer fit. This page is about the rest of the gap.

| ReDock | LocalWP | |
|---|---|---|
| Platforms | macOS 12 or later on Apple silicon, and 64-bit Windows 10 or later. Neither build is signed yet, so the first open takes one extra click on each. The Studio, for docs, video and images, runs on macOS only; sites, the agent, sharing and the MCP server are the same on both. | Five builds in the download picker: Mac Intel, Mac Apple Silicon, Windows, Linux Debian-based and Linux RPM-based. |
| WordPress sites | One click makes a WordPress site with PHP, MySQL, core, config and a trusted certificate at https://name.test, in about a minute, with wp-admin one click away through a single-use login. ReDock Blocks is installed so the agent edits in real blocks, and ReDock for Elementor where Elementor is active. | Yes, and only WordPress: "Local sets up WordPress for you. One click and your site is ready to go, SSL included!" With one-click admin, a site shell with WP-CLI, Blueprints, cloning, import and export, and Multisite. |
| Other stacks | Headless WordPress with an Astro or Next.js front end, Astro, Next.js, Node, Bun, PHP, n8n and Remotion, each a site type with its own https://name.test address. | WordPress only. The one reach beyond it is the "WP Engine Headless WordPress Platform" add-on, which will "Automatically create and configure a Node.js frontend connected to a WordPress backend". |
| PHP and Node per site | Chosen per site from a dropdown in Setup. Versions install side by side into ReDock's own folder, nothing goes into the system, and two sites on different versions is ordinary. | "Hot-swap between PHP versions", with "Available versions: 7.3, 7.4, and 8.0+", and the PHP 8 doc says you "can change the PHP version of existing sites from the site details page". Node appears only inside the headless add-on; per-site Node versions are not on the pages read. |
| Databases | MySQL, created with every WordPress site, plus PostgreSQL and Redis as supervised services, all inside ReDock's own folder and removed with it. | MySQL: "try out the latest version of MySQL right from Local". PostgreSQL and Redis are not on the pages read. |
| Trusted local HTTPS | Every site gets https://name.test with a certificate the browser trusts, issued by a private certificate authority created on your computer. One password prompt, once, at first launch; the padlock is real from then on, and the certificates renew themselves. | "Self-signed certificates are automatically created for new sites" with the "Ability to trust self-signed certificates to suppress browser notices", one click on the Trust button. Their SSL doc adds that on Big Sur and newer "you'll need to manually trust the site's SSL certificate using Keychain". |
| A share link | Unlimited unlisted quick links, and three named subdomains under redock.xyz, over Cloudflare tunnels. The site keeps running on your computer; stop is one click and the link goes dark. | Live Links, "persistent URLs with higher connection limits, built for testing as a team", plus basic site tunnels, both as an included add-on. They are "provisioned site tunnels from your Local account". |
| A custom domain | One at a time, on every plan: a domain you own pointed at a shared site with two DNS records the app walks you through, through your own Cloudflare account. | For the local address: "Change site URL by simply typing in the new domain (the database will be safely updated!)". Pointing a domain you own at a shared site is not on the pages read. |
| Deploys | One-click deploys of built sites to Cloudflare, with a token scoped to exactly what it needs and the custom domain attached from inside the app. | "Deploy directly to Flywheel production or staging" and "Deploy directly to WP Engine production, staging, or development", with MagicSync recommending which files to sync, and a "One-click export" for any other host. |
| An AI agent | Built in. It lists its steps before it runs, keeps a receipt for every change and offers an undo, behind per-site permissions in plain words. Bring a Claude, OpenAI, Gemini, OpenRouter or Groq key, or run a local model from the catalogue. | Not stated on their site |
| An MCP server | At 127.0.0.1:47200, for Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor or any MCP client, behind the same per-site permissions as the built-in agent. It never listens to the network. | Not stated on their site |
| A database browser | Built in. Databases, tables and rows for MySQL, PostgreSQL and Redis, a SQL console and export, with a two-second honest answer when an engine is down. | Yes. Their help doc names AdminNeo as the tool Local ships, and a Database tab with the host, port, socket, username and password for connecting "MySQL Workbench, DBeaver, TablePlus, and Navicat" instead. |
| Free or paid | Free. The whole desktop app, on every plan, with nothing held back. | "It's free and always will be." Nothing on the pages read is sold. |
| An account needed | No account to install or use the app. A named share link is the one place you sign in, once, so the name stays yours; a quick link needs no account at all. | The download itself asks for a platform and an organisation type. Live Links, Connect and Cloud Backups run from a Local account: "Create a free account". |
What they have that we do not
- Linux, and Intel Macs. ReDock runs on Apple silicon and 64-bit Windows only.
- A hosting company behind it: push and pull to WP Engine and Flywheel through Local Connect, with MagicSync choosing the files. ReDock deploys built sites to Cloudflare and has no push to any WordPress host.
- Cloud Backups of a local site to Google Drive or Dropbox. The ReDock desktop app does not back up local sites.
- Blueprints, cloning, import and export of whole sites, and WordPress Multisite.
- Mailpit for catching outgoing mail, Xdebug, a Link Checker, an Image Optimizer and Instant Reload.
- A much longer track record, and "1,000,000+ developers who've downloaded Local" by their own count.
What we have that they do not
- More than WordPress: n8n, Node, Bun, Astro, Next.js, Remotion and headless pairs, each on its own https://name.test address in the same window.
- A certificate the browser trusts on every site from the first launch, with one password prompt, and no Keychain visit on macOS.
- A built-in agent that lists its steps, keeps a receipt and offers an undo, with a local model option that needs no key. Nothing like it is on their pages.
- An MCP server at 127.0.0.1:47200 for Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor or any MCP client, behind the same per-site permissions.
- A quick share link with no account at all, and named subdomains under redock.xyz.
- A custom domain on a shared site, and one-click Cloudflare deploys, from inside the app.
- PostgreSQL and Redis as supervised services, browsed in the same database browser as MySQL.
Their download prompt says "It's free and always will be." Nothing on the pages read is sold; Live Links, Connect and Cloud Backups come with a free Local account.
Read on 11 September 2026 at https://localwp.com/Can I import a Local site into ReDock?
There is no importer for Local's export files. ReDock can start a site from a folder of code you already have and detects the stack, and the WordPress database is yours to move with the tools you already use. If you have dozens of Local sites, that is real work, and this page will not pretend otherwise.
Does ReDock push a site to WP Engine or Flywheel?
No. ReDock deploys built sites to Cloudflare and shares a local site over a tunnel; it does not move a local WordPress site to any host. ReDock Web, the separate dashboard at app.redock.xyz, looks after live WordPress sites you already host, but it does not move a local site there either.
Does ReDock run on Linux or an Intel Mac?
No. The desktop app ships for macOS 12 or later on Apple silicon and for 64-bit Windows 10 or later. Local ships for Linux and Intel Macs. If that is your machine, Local is the one that runs.
Judge it on one download.
The desktop app is free on macOS and Windows, with no account. Make a site and see whether the rows this page says we do well are the ones you needed.
